Details
Shopify Description
Rare 16th-century Italian albarello made of tin-glazed earthenware. The vessel body displays the waisted form typical of pharmacy jars, with a flared rim and a profiled base.
The front is decorated with an oval-framed female profile portrait. The subject is depicted in side view and framed by an ornamental cartouche. The remaining surface is adorned with bold, ornamental-floral painting in blue, ochre, and green. The reverse features a large floral motif with sweeping tendrils.
The combination of a portrait medallion and lively decoration reflects the decorative design language of 16th-century Italian maiolica. The piece unites the function of a historical pharmacy jar with the representative quality of a fine collector's item.
